Love Between The Panels
Comic books don’t just tell stories of epic battles - they’ve also given us love stories that tug at our hearts. As we celebrate Valentine’s day, let’s look back at how some of the most beloved comic couples met and where their relationships stand today.
Clark Kent & Lois Lane (DC Comics)
Clark and Lois first crossed paths in Action Comics #1 (1938), where she was the sharp-witted reporter and he, the mild-mannered alter ego of Superman. Their slow-burn romance eventually led to their marriage in Superman: The Wedding Album (1996). Now, they’re not just partners at The Daily Planet but also proud parents to Jon Kent, the new Superman.
Peter Parker & Mary Jane Watson (Marvel Comics)
Peter and MJ’s romance blossomed after her iconic introduction in The Amazing Spider-Man #42 (1966).Though their relationship has had ups and downs, including a controversial erasure of their marriage in One More Day, they remain deeply connected. Recent storylines hint at rekindling their bond.
Alana & Marko (Image Comics)
Alana and Marko’s love began in Saga #1 (2012), when they defied everything to be together. Even after devastating losses, their love remains the emotional anchor of their story.
Poison Ivy & Harley Quinn (DC Comics)
What started as a partnership in Batman: The Animated Series turned into romance by Harley Quinn #25 (2017). Ivy helps Harley heal, while Harley brings joy into Ivy’s life. Now, they’re thriving as a couple in DC’s comics and TV shows.
Reed Richards & Sue Storm (Marvel Comics)
Reed and Sue’s love story began in Fantastic Four #1 (1961). Their marriage in Fantastic Four Annual #3 (1965) made them Marvel’s ultimate power couple. Despite challenges, they’ve always stood together for their family.
This barely scratches the surface of comic book love past and present. A few other notable couples include:
Vision and Wanda Maximoff (Marvel Comics)
Oliver Queen and Dinah Lance (DC Comics)
Rick Grimes and Lori Grimes (Image Comics)
Scott Pilgrim and Ramona Flowers (Oni Comics)
These couples and many others remind us that even in worlds full of chaos, love always finds a way. Happy Valentines Day!
